The Sandy Springs City Council has updated its noise ordinance to clarify when construction noise is prohibited.

Acting on the recommendation of the city attorney, who said the wording of the prior ordinance was open to possible misinterpretation, the council amended the code to prohibit construction noise before 7:30 a.m. or after 7:30 p.m. weekdays; before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m. Saturdays; and any time Sundays or on legal holidays.

Holidays are Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving Day; and New Year’s Day, Independence Day, and Christmas Day as observed by the city.

The same hours apply to landscape contractors using motorized mowers, mechanical blowers or other equipment that create noise exceeding 55dB(A) when measured at or outside the property boundary.
