The Sandy Springs City Council has approved spending $400,000 to buy another residential property on Hammond Drive, its ninth acquisition there for an anticipated street-widening project.

The city is acquiring a single-family home built in 1960 and its 0.5-acre lot at 6018 Kayron Drive, on the northwest corner of Kayron and Hammond, staff said in a memo to the council. The purchase agreement identifies the seller as William Ryan Andersen.

The house “will be inspected, and if meets the established criteria, will be available for public safety officers to rent until the road widening project is ready for construction,” a Sandy Springs spokeswoman said.

Last month, the council agreed to spend $400,000 to acquire a house on the opposite corner, at 6017 Kayron. The city plans to widen Hammond from two lanes to four and add sidewalks and bicycle lanes.
