The Sandy Springs City Council has awarded a $1.38 million contract to widen and add turn lanes to the intersection of Spalding Drive and Dalrymple and Trowbridge roads.

CMES Inc. submitted the lowest of five responsive bids for the project (the actual lowest bid, of $1.35 million, was deemed non-responsive by staff because the bidder was not a Georgia prequalified prime contractor, a prerequisite for bidders).

Project plans call for right-turn lanes added to all legs of the intersection; left-turn lanes added to northbound Spalding and southbound Trowbridge; and provisions for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The contractor also will be responsible for site grading, retaining walls, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, pedestrian-scale lighting and landscaping, and erosion control measures, staff said.
