Fayette County students, parents and community members voiced post-election social and safety concerns at a forum held at Sandy Creek High School Wednesday night.

Questions about racial slurs, hate crimes, free speech and other issues were directed at a panel of local leaders that included newly elected District Attorney Ben Coker, Sheriff Barry Babb, school superintendent Joseph Barrow Jr. and county commissioner Charles Rousseau.

Panelists assured attendees that individual rights and safety would be protected and encouraged individuals to use their own influence to maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect and tolerance. Barrow said similar forums might be held at other high schools as well.
