Sandtown Middle School was on lockdown Monday afternoon, Atlanta police said.

A driver pulled into the school parking lot to get away from someone he said was shooting at him, Fulton County police Cpl. Kay Lester said.

The incident happened around 3:20 p.m. at the school, which is located at 5400 Campbellton SW. Students were still at the facility for after-school activities.

A voicemail sent by Principal Kiné Geathers to parents said that three individuals ran into the school and said they had been shot at when they stopped at a nearby ATM.
