Deputy Superintendent Sam Sweat will retire from Fayette County Public Schools on March 31.

Sweat made the announcement at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.

Sweat began his tenure in Fayette as an assistant principal in 1990, and was named the first principal at Starr’s Mill High School in 1999. He became the assistant superintendent for operations in 2005, and succeeded Fred Oliver as deputy superintendent three years ago.

Sweat said it has been “an honor and a privilege” to work in Fayette, and that he is exploring new opportunities.
