Sale of Atlanta International School in doubt

Atlanta’s school system is reconsidering whether to sell Buckhead property to Atlanta International School that the private school currently leases.

Atlanta Public Schools’ tentative budget includes $6 million in anticipated revenue from the property sale, but Board of Education Chairman Reuben McDaniel said Tuesday that the sale is complicated by high property values in the area and potential future needs of the school system.

McDaniel said he believes the school district can sell at least $2.7 million in other property over the next year. If too few properties are sold, the school system would have to further dip into its shrinking reserve funds.
