A Vietnam War expert carrying a fake rifle caused a stir at Young Harris College in North Georgia Monday morning.

A student who saw Dr. Lee March carrying the fake weapon alerted campus authorities, and the college police and Towns County Sheriff's Office responded immediately.

“Upon further investigation, it was determined that the item in question was a rubber replica of a Vietnam War weapon,” the college said in a statement. “The student acted responsibly, and we are grateful to the Young Harris Police Department and Towns County Sheriff's Office for their quick and professional response.”

A recognized expert in the Vietnam War, March was returning to his office several instructional replicas and materials from a presentation he made last Friday. March directs the Vietnam Veterans Oral History Project at Young Harris.
