Hazardous and toxic items, from paint thinners to household cleaners to mercury thermometers, will be taken at a Roswell Public Works/Environmental Department household hazardous waste collection in November, according to a city announcement.

The event is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Roswell Solid Waste Facility, 1810 Hembree Road, Alpharetta. The collection is for Roswell households only — no commercial entitities — and proof of residency will be required, officials said.

Other acceptable items will include pesticides, herbicides and fungicides; fertilizers; undiluted pool chemicals; fluorescent bulbs; propane gas cylinders; non-rechargeable household batteries; aerosols including aerosol paint; and automatic brake fluid, used motor oil filters, and gasoline.

No latex or oil-based paints will be accepted, nor can materials be dropped off before the event. CARE Environmental Corporation will handle and dispose of materials.
