An adaptive sports program for disabled veterans would be funded by a $57,695 federal grant to be sought by the city of Roswell.

The Roswell City Council authorized staff to apply for a 2017 Adaptive Sports Grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The funds would implement programs for veterans with lower extremity and other physical impairments; programs would include VA Wheelchair Softball, VA Adaptive Paddle Boarding and VA Adaptive Cycling, according to a staff report.

Monies would go toward sports equipment, two sports wheelchairs, coaches, apparel and staff costs. No city match is required. The Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department would be responsible for the program.
