The Roswell City Council has approved a request to rename Dobbs Drive for the late Rev. Dr. Frank Lewis, a pastor who served Roswell for more than 30 years and was as leading figure in the community.

The street will now be called Frank Lewis Drive. The change was requested by the Dr. Frank Lewis Legacy Foundation, created to continue the humanitarian work of the clergyman. Information: https://bit.ly/32weIDY

Dr. Lewis was pastor of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Roswell, and taught at Carver Bible College and Gwinnett Hall Bible College, according to his obituary. He died on Aug. 5, 2014, at age 64.

In related action, the council updated its street renaming policy to allow requests for name changes to be accepted from any government elected official; previously, the requester had to be “a legally authorized representative” of a city department or federal, state or Fulton County agency.

Changes can continue to originate with property owners on a street, or a developer who has received concept plan approval from the city, the policy says.
