Roswell has agreed to pay an additional $60,000 for the next six months to have its trash removal contractor continue to pick up glass in its mixed curbside recycling program.

The City Council voted recently to approve the contract amendment with Advanced Disposal Services. Though third-party recycling companies no longer accept glass, Advanced offered to continue to pick up glass with other recyclables if the city paid an additional $10,000 per month in its recycling fee.

The $60,000 is for the six months ending June 30. The fee will continue in the FY 2018 budget, which begins July 1.

“The increase will not be passed along to residents at this time, but absorbed from the Solid Waste Fund balance,” according to staff report.
