A committee of the Roswell City Council has signed off on a proposal to seek $817,643 from a Georgia Department of Transportation grant program for bridge maintenance and the construction of multi-use trail connecting two schools.

The Community Development and Transportation Committee forwarded to the full Council a staff recommended that the city request $300,000 make repairs, clear vegetation, seal asphalt and joints, and do other work on 12 bridges; and $517,643 for the construction of the Hardscrabble Green Loop.

The Hardscrabble “complete street” project would provide a 10-foot-wide multi-use path, 4-foot bicycle lanes, and a 5-foot sidewalk along Hardscrabble Road from Roswell High School to Sweet Apple Elementary School, a distance of 1.2 miles. Intersection improvements, including a roundabout at Chaffin Road, also are planned.

Construction is expected to begin this fall. Total project cost is estimated at $4.8 million.
