The Roswell City Council has approved an agreement with Alpharetta formalizing the maintenance responsibilities for bridges at their respective city limits that carry Mansell Road over Big Creek.

“For the past 20 years, staff in Roswell and Alpharetta have been operating under an informal understanding that the northern (westbound) Mansell Road bridge is Alpharetta’s to maintain, and the southern (eastbound) Mansell Road bridge is Roswell’s to maintain,” staff said in a report to the council.

Neither city has been able to locate a formal agreement to that effect, so staff recommended both cities enter into a 20-year intergovernmental agreement “to remove any confusion about future responsibilities.”

In a related matter, the Roswell council approved a $100,973 contract with Lefko Construction to clean and repaint the steel piers of the eastbound Mansell bridge over Big Creek. Alpharetta performed similar maintenance on the westbound bridge several years ago, staff said.
