The Roswell Fire Department is installing smoke alarms free of charge for underprivileged families as part of the 2017 Operation Save-A-Life fire safety awareness campaign.

A total of 5,000 smoke alarms were donated to metro Atlanta fire departments by a partnership involving WSB-TV, Kidde, Home Depot and attorney Ken Nugent, Roswell officials said.

Roswell will install the alarms, while supplies last. To request one, contact Chris Cooper at ccooper@roswellgov.com or 770-594-6225.

Operation Save-A-Life seeks to increase public awareness of fire safety, the dangers of fires and carbon monoxide poisoning, and the importance of having a properly installed and maintained smoke alarm. Information: http://2wsb.tv/2yF1PI5
