Roswell residents will have an opportunity this winter to train for the Community Emergency Response Team, a volunteer group that will be integrated into emergency response efforts, officials announced.

The Roswell Fire Department is taking applications for CERT training, to be conducted in eight classes, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Feb. 21, 2019. Most classes will be held at Fire Station No. 7, 8025 Holcomb Bridge Road.

Class size is limited to 16 students. Participants must be Roswell residents at least 18 years old.

The CERT program offers training in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

CERT members will be able to assist others in their neighborhoods or workplaces following an event when professional responders are not immediately available. They also will be encouraged to become involved in community emergency preparedness projects.
