Roswell council votes down tax rate cut

The Roswell City Council bucked a proposal by Mayor Jere Wood to lower the property tax levy by 2 percent, voting 4-1 Monday to keep the rate the same as last year.

Council members said they were concerned cutting revenues to the 2012 budget could put the city so far behind in maintaining its roads and equipment that residents might face bigger expenses down the road.

A final reading of the budget is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall.
