The Roswell City Council tentatively approved this morning  a proposal to make an amendment to the retirement plan for new municipal employees.

Under the amendment, employees hired on or after March 1 would be prohibited from participating in the Georgia Municipal Employees Benefit System retirement plan. The amendment would also apply for elected officials and municipal judges sworn into office on or after the same date.

The mayor and the council will decide on the elements of a new plan to replace the current one in the near future.

The amendment will undergo a second reading at the Feb. 28 council meeting.
