Roswell chief favors fire station at Big Creek Park

Roswell Fire Chief Ricky Spencer has recommended the city build a new fire station at Big Creek Park.

Spencer told the city public safety committee Tuesday night the Big Creek location was more centrally located for the needs of the fire district in east Roswell.

The city first considered building on a city-owned vacant lot at the Terramont subdivision on Holcomb Bridge Road. Terramont residents complained and the city looked at the park on Old Alabama Road.

Use of the Big Creek site was opposed by the city parks commission and mountain bike enthusiasts who enjoy the park’s network of riding trails. Spencer said he expected only part of one biking trail and one hiking trail would be altered.

The city needs to replace fire station No. 4 on Holcomb Bridge Road, which is old, small and full of termites. The city next will next consider designs. Final decisions will have to be made at a city council meeting.
