The Roswell City Council has approved spending $146,998 to purchase 155 body-worn cameras for the police department.

Roswell police had researched the cameras to equip its sworn officers and recommended that the city acquire the devices from Axon Enterprise Inc. of Scottsdale, Ariz., a manufacturer of police gear including TASER devices. The first-year fee includes training, warranty, data storage and licensing.

The council also approved annual payments of $58,933 in years two through five of its contract with Axon to continue the maintenance agreements associated with warranty, data storage and licensing.
