The Roswell City Council this week approved a controversial town home development despite a recommendation from city planners that they deny it.

Council members voted 4-0 in favor of a proposal for 56 town homes near Old Alabama Road and Market Boulevard, part of a site plan that included a private school which the council okayed in February. Approval came with two dozen conditions to meet the concerns of the city and residents of the neighboring Martin’s Landing neighborhood.

Setting aside 60 percent of the development for open space and providing a 125-foot buffer between the development and that neighborhood is one issue.

City staffers had recommended the project not be approved because it doesn’t square with future land use plans for that area.
