Rolling lane closures expected for funeral of Marine Skip Wells

The funeral procession for Lance Cpl. Skip Wells — the Marietta Marine killed earlier this month in Chattanooga — will bring rolling lane closures to Cobb and Cherokee counties Sunday afternoon.
Wells’ funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Woodstock. He will be buried with military honors at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
The funeral procession is expected to begin around 1 p.m. and, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation, rolling lane closures will take place on Cobb Parkway, I-575, Ga. 92 and Ga. 20. Local law enforcement will escort the procession.
Wells, a 21-year-old graduate of Sprayberry High School, was one of four Marines killed during a June 16 attack at the Navy Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Chattanooga, Tenn. A Navy sailor also died from injuries sustained in a related attack at a nearby recruiting center.
Wells was remembered Tuesday during a public memorial service at Sprayberry, and visitation services were held Friday and Saturday at a funeral home in Kennesaw.
First Baptist Church of Woodstock is located at 11905 Ga. 92 in Woodstock. The Georgia National Cemetery is located at 1080 Scott Hudgins Drive in Canton.
