A Rockdale County high school teacher arrested in March for allegedly having sex with a student is back in jail facing a new, more serious charge.
Former Heritage High School art teacher Leslie Howard Mosley Jr. turned himself in Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of aggravated child molestation, Rockdale County sheriff's investigator Michael Camp told the AJC Wednesday.
Mosley, a 36-year-old Covington man, originally was arrested March 30 and charged with "sexual assault by a teacher engaged in sexual contact with another," for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student. The age of consent in Georgia is 16.
Officials at the Conyers school had reported the alleged inappropriate relationship to police, Camp said.
Mosley confessed to investigators that he had sex with the student at his house and at her house on numerous occasions, according to Camp. Mosley bonded out of the Rockdale County Jail on April 2.
Rockdale investigators filed the aggravated child molestation charge last week after determining during interviews with the alleged victim and other students that Mosley had "some sexual activity" with the girl when she was 15, Camp said.
"It was consensual, but legally, she couldn't consent because she wasn't 16," said Camp.
He said Mosley turned himself in Friday and is still in Rockdale County jail. No bond has been set.
Camp said Mosley has been terminated from the Rockdale County school system.
