A pack of dogs in Rockdale County has been attacking and killing local cats, authorities say.

Rockdale County Animal Control told Channel 2 Action News the dogs may killed as many as seven cats in one Conyers neighborhood. These attacks usually happen at night.

Tracy Harp told the television station the dogs killed two of her kittens and seriously injured a third. Her cat, Gizmo, escaped by climbing up a pine tree, but not before the dogs mauled his tail.

“They dragged her across the back yard and literally ripped her to pieces,” Harp said. “From the back of his spine to about the middle of his tail, they had literally ripped fur, skin and everything off.”

Rockdale County Animal Control Director Ciji Baker said crews have placed dog traps all across the neighborhood.

In addition to traps, animal control officers also use tranquilizer guns, but, so far, no one has even seen the dogs.

“We do have dog traps that we try, tranquilizer guns that we will attempt,” Baker said. “But either way, you still have to be able to get close enough to the dog to tranquilize it or to get it on a catch pole or even a leash.”

Conyers police are also trying to spot the dog pack.

Baker said the dogs do not appear to be aggressive to humans, but authorities advise pet owners to bring small animals inside until the dog pack is found.
