A stretch of Whitlock Avenue will be under construction the next two months starting the night of July 31, a few days before Marietta students go back at school.

There will be closures planned almost every night between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., the city said in a Thursday news release.

Crews will be working on a stretch of Whitlock between Marietta Square and Marietta High School.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience,” said the city, even though Whitlock is a state-owned road.

The city said it was told by the Georgia Department of Transportation that the project would be done before the start of classes.

But the school system isn’t worried because GDOT said it would have the roads cleared by 5 a.m.

“We do not foresee any issues at this time,” the district said.
