The reconstruction of Riverside bridge, a key crossing in Sandy Springs, has been delayed.

The bridge won’t open until mid-April because of weather delays, said city spokeswoman Judy Parker. The span had been slated to open by the end of March.

Crews have been working quickly on the bridge, which was closed after flooding in September. The March goal was ambitious, given original estimate called for the bridge to be closed a year to complete the $900,000 project.

Design plans call for two 14-foot lanes as well as sidewalks to be built on both sides of the bridge.

The repair also will lengthen the bridge by about five feet and increase its elevation over Marsh Creek by about six inches.
