A retired newspaper carrier won’t have to go back to throwing papers anytime soon.

J.T. Willis matched the first five numbers in the Aug. 8 Powerball drawing and won $1 million, the Georgia Lottery Corp. announced Friday.

Willis, who delivered the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for 14 years, claimed his big prize Thursday at the lottery’s district office in Duluth.

The Lawrenceville resident, who bought the winning ticket at the Norcross Food Mart on Old Norcross Road, said he has no immediate plans for the money.

“I’m too young to make plans,” the 72-year-old said. “I just do it.”
