Georgia Department of Transportation workers remain on the job and will be implementing single lane closures 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. nightly along the upcoming U.S. 78/Ga. 10 Loop resurfacing project in Athens.

Current plans are for crews to work Monday through Sunday, except for weekends that feature UGA home football games. On these weekends, the loop will remain open in order to compensate for additional traffic.

The project will begin just north of the Milledge Avenue Bridge and extend south of U.S. 78/Ga. 10. Crews will perform milling, inlay, and plant mix resurfacing across approximately 12 miles of the corridor (including travel lanes, shoulders, and exits).

Work is expected to begin in late March and has an estimated completion date of Dec. 2020. The $10.8 million project in Clarke County was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc.

As always, construction happens if the weather cooperates.
