A 4-year-old boy who fell into a swimming pool Saturday is in a coma and on life support, his family told Channel 2 Action News on Sunday.

The child was unresponsive when discovered by his mother Saturday afternoon, Atlanta police confirm. He was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

The incident occurred at the Wellington apartments in the 3500 block of Roswell Road, Atlanta police spokesman Curtis Davenport said. The boy's father said the pool area is usually locked off, Channel 2 reports.

"My concern is, I am very upset about why they leave open," Shamin Ahmed told Channel 2. "Because this is not a kid's pool. It is a very deep."

Property management told Channel 2 the incident is under investigation.
