68/U

A Persian restaurant in Norcross failed a routine health inspection Wednesday after employees used unclean knives stored in the cracks between two refrigerator units, a report says.

Shandiz House of Kabob, located at 5270 Peachtree Parkway, received a 68/U on its inspection Wednesday. The establishment had received a 92/A on its prior inspection in December 2015.

According to the inspector, the “visit was unsatisfactory” and several violations were reported.

Employees were seen using knives that were stored in the cracks between two refrigerator units “with visible soil accumulations present.” Knives were later sanitized and stored properly.

The facility was not marking food items with the times and dates the food was cooked or the expiry time. Because there was no way to know when the food had been made, the inspector discarded several products, including salad, cucumber yogurt and hummus.

The inspector found two dented cans of food in the kitchen. The report also notes the plumbing under the kitchen sink was leaking, and the screen door leading outside had gaps at the bottom. The inspector remarked that the door “must be protected from entry of pest.”

Management of Shandiz House of Kabob was not immediately available for comment.

A follow-up inspection will occur within 10 days.
