An officer broke up a fight between two girls on an Atlanta school bus by zapping them with a Taser gun, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The incident happened Friday afternoon near Inman Middle School in northeast Atlanta.

Two seventh grade students, ages 12 and 13, were fighting on the parked bus when a school resource officer boarded the bus and used a Taser to end the fight, the report said.

“There’s no excuse … these kids didn’t have a weapon” said Sheena Lester, the mother of the 12-year-old. “They are little girls.”

Atlanta Public Schools spokesman Stephen J. Alford confirmed the Taser incident. He said officers “must use their own best judgement when making sure that our kids are safe.”

Atlanta police told Channel 2 that the department is reviewing the incident to determine if APD’s policies were followed.
