A back-to-school barbecue in DeKalb County was interrupted on Saturday when a man was shot as children played nearby.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the shooting happened in a shopping center on Glenwood Road outside Decatur. Cecil Upshaw, owner of Smoking Pig Barbecue, was grilling during the celebration, which included a school supply giveaway, when two gunshots were heard.

After the two shots, Upshaw said the victim told the event participants he had been shot and they called for an ambulance. The victim was reportedly alert and talking as he was being loaded into the ambulance.

A witness told Channel 2 that four neighborhood men were hanging out in the shopping center with another man from out of town. An argument broke out in the group, and one of the men shot the out-of-town man.

None of the children were hurt in the shooting.
