A man who shot at police officers was found dead inside a Rome home Friday night.

The man, whose name was not released, fired gunshots out a Keown Road home, prompting neighbors to call 911, the Rome News-Tribune reported.

“Three officers arrived at the same time, and they began taking gunfire from a window,” Capt. John Blalock of the Floyd County Police Department told the newspaper. “It was a continuous round.”

SWAT team officers tried to make contact with the man before entering the home, according to the report. Inside the home, near Kingston Highway, officers found the man dead.

Investigators have not yet determined whether the shot himself or was hit by officers' bullets, police told the newspaper. The GBI is assisting with the investigation.
