Two Atlanta men were arrested after they were caught with 52 cases of beer in the back of U-Haul truck in Bartow County.
The two men apparently stole the beer from a tractor-trailer parked at TA Truckstop on Cass White Road, The Daily Tribune in Cartersville reported. Passers-by called police early Friday after seeing the men carrying boxes from one truck to the other, the Bartow County sheriff's office told the newspaper.
The men were driving away in the U-Haul truck when deputies arrived shortly before 3 a.m. The men ran from deputies during a traffic stop, but were later located and arrested, according to the report.
Richard Lee Matthews, 45, and Jan Keith Glass, 43, both of Atlanta, were arrested and face numerous charges, according to Sheriff Clark Millsap. Matthews was being held on a $6,000 bond. Glass is being held on a state parole violation.
Glass has been sent to state prison three times and most recently was released in September, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He has previously been convicted of burglary, theft by taking and drug charges.
