Report: 18,000 chickens killed in fire

Jan 17, 2011About 18,000 chickens were killed in a fire Saturday afternoon in a small South Carolina town.
Half of about a 500-feet long chicken house was destroyed in the blaze, The Augusta Chronicle reported. Several volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze in Batesburg, S.C., located about 40 miles northeast of Augusta.
The cause of the fire, which started around 4:30 p.m., was not released.
