Repairs “are anticipated to continue through Monday” on the damaged 36-inch water pipe at the 14th Street complex, a city spokeswoman said Thursday.

"Additional repair efforts have been successful today," said Rukiya Campbell of the Department of Watershed Management in the latest update. "The final steps are being taken to complete the repair."

The leak was discovered May 27 near the Hemphill Steam Pumping Station. It's close enough to critical facilities like hospitals and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport that they were encouraged to have extra water stored, just in case.

On Saturday, DWM workers finished cutting out the damaged section of the pipe. The thickness of the tube and the complexity of the procedure caused a long process, the city said.
