A motorist from South Carolina was injured early Friday when a rental truck ran off I-20 in Newton County and overturned down an embankment.

The wreck happened before 7 a.m. on I-20 eastbound near Almon Road.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright told the AJC that the 20-foot Budget rental truck, driven by Hector Alejandro Chavez, 28, of Summerville, S.C., hit a guardrail adjacent to the Yellow River bridge and tumbled down the embankment, coming to rest on its side along the riverbank.

A Ford Mustang being towed on a trailer behind the rental truck also overturned onto the riverbank.

Wright said Chavez was taken to Walton Medical Center, where he was treated and later released.

Traffic was not seriously impacted, as the eastbound lanes of the interstate remained open.
