A Tucker High student has been arrested and linked to the killing of an 18-year-old woman whose body was found last Friday in a burning car.

The father of Boris Mejia, 18, was also arrested and charged as an accomplice, Gwinnett County police said.

The younger Mejia was detained in Houston, Tex. -- less than a week after his high school graduation -- and charged with arson and tampering with evidence in Gwinnett. Police say their investigation "revealed probable cause to believe that Boris had, in fact, killed Andrea Nassos," according to a spokesman.

Investigators say Nassos was killed in her apartment on Lavista Road in DeKalb County. Then Mejia allegedly took his friend's body to his home where he dug a shallow grave in the backyard. His father, Ignacio Mejia, 50, prevented him from burying Nassos there, according to Gwinnett police. The elder Mejia is charged with tampering with evidence and hindering the apprehension of a criminal.

Police say Boris Mejia moved Nassos’ body and her vehicle to Lucky Shoals Park, where the car was set on fire. The father then drove his son to Houston, Gwinnett police say.

Because Nassos was killed in their jurisdiction, it'll be up to DeKalb authorities to charge Mejia with Nassos' killing. Erik Burton, spokesman for the DeKalb District Attorney, said the office is reviewing the case.

Boris Mejia is being held by Houston police while his father was taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
