The city of Fayetteville has hired David Rast as its new director of community development, to lead the department whose goal is to “establish and maintain a safe, healthy and attractive community for all residents and business owners.”

He replaces former director Jahnee Prince, who had been with the city since 2017 and is now deputy director of planning and sustainability for DeKalb County. Rast spent 30 years working for Peachtree City and retired as its senior planner in late 2016 before becoming Coweta County’s planner in 2018. Rast will now oversee Fayetteville’s planning and zoning department, as well as functions related to building permits and inspections, code enforcement and engineering.

The city’s downtown area is in the midst of major redevelopment and expansion.
