The Milton Police Department will host a series of self-defense courses for women, targeted at defending against rape.

It’s called “R.A.D. Women” – the acronym stands for rape aggression defense – and the class will run for four days over two weeks in June. The cost for the class is $40 and its offered to women ages 13 and older.

Milton police say the class will teach basic self-defense and students will learn how to recognize, avoid, resist and escape harmful situations. The class also includes demonstrations of self-defense techniques and training simulations.

Police say the class is designed to give practical responses to women during various levels of confrontation, from passive verbal comments to severe aggressive acts.

The classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 6, 8, 13 and 15. To register, visit Milton's website.
