Ranking names Cobb, Marietta schools some of the best in Georgia

Cobb County and Marietta schools made the Honor Roll in Niche’s ranking of Georgia’s best school districts for 2019.

The ranking and review site placed the Cobb County School District at No. 11 on its list of best in Georgia. Marietta City Schools came in at No. 32.

Cobb has more students than any other district in the top 15.

“Success for students has always been more than a single test score in Cobb and is a direct reflection of the great work our teachers do each and every day,” Cobb Superintendent Chris Ragsdale said on Facebook over the weekend.

According to Niche, the annual rankings are calculated using differently weighted factors: Academics are 50 percent, teachers are weighted at 15 percent, culture/diversity is 10 percent, parent/student survey results are 10 percent, health/safety is 5 percent, resources is 5 percent, clubs and such is 2.5 percent and sports are also 2.5 percent.

Out of 11,581 districts across the nation, Cobb is the 179th most diverse, according to Niche.

That diversity ranking factors in parent/student surveys and the U.S. Department of Education’s student racial diversity index, percent of “economically disadvantaged” students and gender diversity.

Marietta comes in at No. 253 in the national diversity ranking.
