While monthly school board meetings are held remotely due to COVID-19 precautions, the Fayette County Board of Education has devised a way for public comments to still be heard.

As explained at Monday’s work session, the board has created an online form for questions or comments to be submitted by noon on the day of each regular meeting, after which those who sign up will be contacted to join the meeting by phone in real time. The next two regular board meetings are scheduled for May 18 and June 15; agendas are posted at www.fcboe.org on the eBoard page under the Meetings tab, and the video can be seen at www.fcboe.org/livestream.

Approximately 30 minutes will be set aside for public comment at the start of each meeting. Each speaker will get the same 3-minute time period for comments that has been allocated at the in-person meetings, and must follow existing guidelines that prohibit “vulgar language or personal abuse against any person.” Written responses to public questions will be issued by appropriate staff after the meeting.
