A town hall meeting in Fayetteville Wednesday drew extensive public comment regarding a proposed residential development.

Developer Bob Rolader presented a revised plan to build 233 detached single-family homes on 98 acres along Helen Sams Parkway and Jimmie Mayfield Blvd., dropping an earlier request to build townhouses on the site.

Traffic studies estimate the homes would add about 2,300 car trips per day to the area, compared to more than 10,000 trips daily if the property was developed under its current commercial zoning. More than 20 residents voiced concerns about traffic, density, school capacity and whether the proposal conflicts with the Southside Development Agreement.

The plan must be brought back to the Planning and Zoning Commission before the City Council would address it.
