More than 20 prisoners and one prison guard suffered minor injuries in an eight-vehicle accident on Interstate 85 south of Buford Drive in Gwinnett County around 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Passengers and drivers of the other seven vehicles were not injured in the accident. The prisoners and guard were all cleared by paramedics at the scene of the accident, said Capt. Tommy Rutledge, a spokesman for Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

Officials did not disclose where the prisoners were coming from or where they were going. An additional prison bus was requested to bring the prisoners to their intended destination.
