The Powder Springs Police Department was awarded state certification Monday during the city council meeting.

A little more than 100 of the state’s 700 police agencies are certified, said Dunwoody Police Chief Billy Brogran, who presented the award to the city’s Police Chief John Robison.

Brogan serves as the second vice president of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.

Over the past three years, the city’s police department passed 129 standards, covering eight areas - under the leadership of Chief Charlie Sewell, who retired in December, and Robison as the state certification manager.
