On Aug. 19, the Powder Springs City Council is expected to decide on whether to increase the annual pay of the mayor and Council members.

Their pay has remained the same since 2005.

If approved, the mayor will receive $21,000 annually instead of the current $18,000, beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

Also, each of the five Council members will be paid $15,000 annually instead of the present $12,000, likewise beginning Jan. 1.

On Nov. 5, Powder Springs voters will decide who to choose for mayor and Posts 1 and 2.

Those posts are held now by Mayor Al Thurman, Post 1 Councilman Patrick Bordelon and Post 2 Councilwoman Patricia Wisdom.

Qualifying times in Powder Springs will take place 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 21, 22 and 23 at Powder Springs City Hall, 4484 Marietta St., second floor conference room, Powder Springs.
