Powder Springs officials are establishing a Civic CERT team with its second annual training opportunity in February.

This 21-hour course will last 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 9, 10 and 11 with graduation on Feb. 11.

The Community Emergency Response Team program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

This program is the first step in joining a damage assessment team, a medical operations team or a search and rescue team, following additional training associated with that respective team.
