Economic development incentives will be given to Circle 10 Soccer in Powder Springs for its building permit and land development permit.
The decision was made on July 15 by a 4-0-1 vote of the Powder Springs City Council with Councilman Patrick Bordelon absent.
However, a request of the city from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for the dollar amount has not received a response.
In March, a presentation was made to the City Council regarding Circle 10 Soccer’s development plans for its soccer complex on 22 acres at 5030 Hill Road and U.S. 278 for $7.5 million to $10.5 million.
The company’s founder is Michelle Akers, an Olympic Gold Medalist in women’s soccer in 1996 and FIFA’s Player of the Century in 2000 who is known as the first woman’s soccer player to gain global fame.
FIFA is the world governing body of soccer.
During the March Council meeting, Stephanie Gabbert, the company’s chief financial officer, said at least 50 jobs should be generated.
The new soccer/sports complex is planned to include two outdoor lighted turf fields, a walking trail, 350 parking spaces and a 40,000-square-foot building with a large indoor field, two futsal courts, a restaurant, a national-branded workout facility and a media room space.
Besides soccer camps for children, Akers operates a horse rescue and outreach program in Powder Springs.
