Police in Athens are looking for a woman who allegedly stole over $1,000 from a 94-year-old woman’s purse on Monday.

Athens-Clarke County police spokeswoman Hilda Sorrow said the victim told investigators that someone knocked on the door of her South Milledge Avenue home around 6:30 p.m. Monday, and when she opened the door, a woman “began pushing and kicking the door open.”

The intruder asked the victim for pills or money, and when the victim said she had neither, the suspect again asked for pills or money.

“The victim noticed the suspect was close to her purse, so she picked it up and was holding it,” Sorrow said. “The suspect pulled the purse out of the victim’s hands and then left the room, leaving the purse behind.”

Sorrow said that after the suspect left, the victim checked her purse “and discovered an envelope containing over $1,000 was missing.”
