A woman leaped to her death on Interstate 85 Tuesday, a little before noon from the Indian Trail overpass, snarling traffic in most lanes on the highway.

The Gwinnett County Police Department confirmed the fatality and location, but earlier reports had conflicting information on whether the person was a man or woman. No other details were immediately available.

GDOT initially said five southbound lanes of the six-lane highway were initially closed by the incident.

All lanes were re-opened by 1:30 p.m. However, online traffic maps showed that the traffic backup still stretched from Pleasant Hill Road to Beaver Ruin Road at that time.
